Artist Statement:
I have been interested in doing art since I was about 9. My grandfather gave me some 1910 books about how to do different English fonts -- I loved doing it, but I didn't realize I was doing art. I didn't start doing watercolor until I was 30. I didn't start Japanese calligraphy until I was in my 40s. I sold my first painting on the day of my 50th birthday, a sumi-e black ink brush drawing of plum blossoms and calligraphy of a poem from the 11th century.
